Chrome Overcoat
Chrome Overcoat thrusts you into a relentless, classic DOOM-like dystopia. As a prisoner in a nightmarish jail, you gain superhuman might through scientific experience called 'Chroming.'
Survival is your mission, escape your sole salvation. Battle prison guards and brain washed cellmates in a race against time. Will you conquer the chaos and break free from this brutal, unforgiving world?
I primarily worked on this project as both a Technical Artist and a Producer. I was responsible for creating all VFX, post-processing effects, complex shaders, and even SFX.
Throughout the project, there were several research phases where I conducted tests for various artistic directions and visual styles.
Colorfull Comics
In our initial iteration, we attempted to recreate a colorful comics style, employing techniques such as cel shading, outlining, and enhancing contrast. These tests served as proof of concept, which I created to facilitate discussions with other artists on our project.
Visual Madness
In our second iteration, we drew direct inspiration from the TV show 'Arkane,' particularly focusing on Jinx's mad vision. Our goal was to recreate these visual effects and incorporate them as outlines within the game. The player would have assumed the role of a soldier who must sacrifice his sanity to gain greater power.
Dark Atmosphere
We ultimately ended up choosing a more realistic rendering by playing with lighting to create different atmospheres within this dystopian prison.
